It is the mission of the Pilot
Mound library, through the provision of
informational, educational, cultural and recreational library material and
services, to ensure the right to free and open community access to diverse
information and ideas fundamental to a democracy.
Goal of the Pilot Mound Public Library:
The goal of the Pilot
Mound Public Library is to provide local residents with materials conveying
ideas and information
necessary for modern community life.
To achieve this goal . . . . .
1. The library shall serve all age groups.
2. Regulations for the use of library materials shall permit extensive utilization but insure adequate protection.
3. The library shall serve as a local information center and actively promote the use of its resources.
4. It will co-operate with other groups and organizations to help stimulate education, information and recreation.
5. The collection will be based on the needs and interests of the community, contain relevant materials, and be able to satisfy the community’s request for books and other information.
6. The collection will further be organized in a logical manner according to a recognized system.

Objectives Policy:
We resolve to provide:
1. A
lifelong learning centre for the community.
2. Collections of enduring value and contemporary interests that are relevant to the needs of patrons.
3. Services that result in library use and involvement of residents, regardless of ethnic background, educational level, economic status or physical condition.
4. Highly trained and competent staff that works to provide service to all users.
5. Appropriate technology to enhance, expand and extend services ensuring all users have equal access to information.
6. Responsible stewardship of the public trust, which ensures the most efficent use of funds.
7. Facilities that are safe, inviting and well maintained.
8. Access to all knowledge, including that which some elements of society consider unconventional, or unacceptable, thereby making available to patrons the widest possible variety of materials.
9. Employees and employers in the library have a duty to resist all efforts to limit the exercise of these responsibilities while recognizing the right of criticism by some individuals and groups.
Acceptable Use Policy
for the Public Access Computer:
1. Internet access is provided for informational purposes. Users are requested to practice consideration and refrain from the display or transmission of information which may be deemed as obscene, profane, lewd, vulgar, rude, threatening, illegal, defamatory, disrespectful language, causing annoyance or inconvenience.
2. The public access site assumes no responsibility for the quality or accuracy of information retrieved from the Internet. This is the responsibility of the user.
3. The public access site will accept no liability for the use of the Internet by children. Parents are responsible for their children’s actions, as it is not possible for staff to control without the permission of the administrator.
4. Files will not be created, downloaded or uploaded on the public access computer without the permission of the administrator.
5. Public access site cannot be expected to provide training in all aspects of the Internet.

6. Users are requested to refrain from games or “Chat” lines. 7. Users are to delete only files after receiving permission from the administrator. 8. Users are advised to refrain from revealing their personal address or credit card information on the Internet. 9. Users will not attempt to gain unauthorized access to the public access computer. 10. Users will not make deliberate attempts to disrupt any computer system performance or destroy data. |

11. Users will not use the public access computer to engage in any illegal act.
12. Users will avoid the inadvertent spread of computer viruses by not downloading or uploading any files without first having checked with the administrator.
13. Users will not post information that, if acted upon, could cause damage or a danger of disruption.
14. Users will not post personal contact information about other people.
15. Users will respect the rights of copyright owners.
16. In the event that a user has violated this Acceptable Use Policy, it will result in loss of Internet privileges.
